Funguys Swarm Enemies and Bosses
Fruit-and-veg fodder, elite packs, and the five arena bosses from Appletini to the Fire King.
Reading the grocery-aisle army
Funguys Swarm is a single-player survivor from Stairway Games. Version 1.0 launched on August 25, 2026 on Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Microsoft Store. The Fire King’s army is a produce section with teeth: peppers, berries, eggs, and roosters that fill the screen until a named boss takes the floor. This page is the bestiary. Pair it with the arena walkthrough for routing, the debuff list for status windows, and the Fire King guide when you reach Hellscape.
You always fight alone. There is no second player in the ring. Movement, auto-attack, and dash i-frames are the same inputs described in controls. Starters are Shroomba and Ersa. The rest of the roster — Nutcase, Groovba, Joomba, Fuzzbug, X-olotl, NutsNBoltz, Chimpy, Dr. Botanika, Mr. Midnight, Steve, and the secret character after a Fire King clear — still faces the same enemy catalog. Version 1.0 lets any hero mix-and-match weapons, so a Watermelon Axe on Ersa or Throwing Grapes on Shroomba does not change which fruit is trying to explode on you.
Steam reviews sat at 974-plus and Very Positive around launch. That reception does not make later arenas polite. Egglosseum and Hellscape still punish greedy pickup routes. Learn silhouettes early, then spend Starpath quests on named kills once you can identify elites at a glance.
Fodder, elites, and why outlines matter
Regular enemies exist to fill space, drop XP Beans, and teach you a silhouette. Elites exist to punish tunnel vision. An elite Chargeberry or Peashooter hits like a mini-boss and often carries a denser projectile pattern. The March 2026 Optimization Update added an enemy outline toggle and ground-splatter control so fruit colors stop blending into Carrot Farm dirt. Turn outlines on if you lose elites in the swarm. CPU swarm work from that same patch keeps Lava Jungle and Egglosseum readable when packs overlap.
Breakables returned in March: Dew, Shroom, and XP pots take three hits from any source. Do not stand on a pot while a Pomegranade walks into fuse range. Chests now roll cards at Rare minimum, which is how you recover after an elite dump deleted your health bar. The Bounty Treeling, reworked in March, grants a level-up after you kill an elite instead of randomly upgrading cards. That change makes elite hunting a progression verb, not just a hazard.
Named fodder you will see in official write-ups and in-game includes Pomegranade (close-range explode), Peashooter (ranged peas), Chargeberry (commit to a rush), Lychee Snake (long body, awkward hitbox), Volcana (molten mood swings in Lava Jungle), Eggy, and Rooster packs in the Egglosseum. Wiki.gg and Stairway blogs also mention related fruit such as Chilli Pepper swarms, Triplets, and cave bombers. Treat those names as flavor on top of the same rule: if it is small and numerous, kiting and Freeze win; if it is large and glowing, respect the tell and spend a dash.
Carrot Farm — Appletini
Carrot Farm is the tutorial ring and the first Sanctuary unlock path. Hazards are light. Pomegranades teach you not to hug the pack. Peashooters teach you to strafe perpendicular to shots. Chargeberries teach you that a dash with i-frames is cheaper than a panic walk. Appletini, the giant bottle-wielding fruit, is the arena boss. Sweeping projectile arcs in the first phase want lateral movement. Later pressure adds spin and shockwaves; the outer ring is usually safer than the bottle’s feet.
A focused weapon plus one crowd-control debuff is enough. Freeze from Water (five seconds of immobilize on fodder; bosses immune) buys time to break pots and collect XP. Marked from Beast (1.4x damage, bosses not immune) is the rare status that still matters when Appletini spawns. If you are new, leave auto-fire on as GameSpew recommends and practice dash timing here before Frozen Pond ice.
Frozen Pond — Catfish
Frozen Pond adds slidey footing. Your dash still has i-frames; your walk does not. Lychee Snakes stretch across lanes and make “just walk around” a lie. Water Freeze is still excellent on fodder because a frozen snake is a wall you can plan around, but Catfish, the Frozen Pond boss, will not sit in a five-second Freeze. Aim Marked, Burn, Shock, or raw weapon mutations at the boss and keep Freeze for the adds.
Ice hazards punish greedy magnet routes. Pause with Escape if you need to read a card; the Banish rework lets you dump several options before you pick. Do not banish your only Freeze tool if the pond is already full of snakes.
Lava Jungle — Dragonfruit
Lava Jungle is the first arena that damages you for standing still in the wrong puddle. Volcana units telegraph molten bursts. Potato Bot Mecha unlocked with this biome in Early Access and still exists in 1.0: charge bars, exploding potatoes, optional ultimate. NutsNBoltz converts Nuts into five percent Mecha charge, which is how you buy a panic transform when Dragonfruit’s tornado phase starts.
Dragonfruit is a two-phase fruit dragon. Medium range beats hugging lava and beats hiding at the camera edge where you cannot see ground markers. Burn from Fire stacks with Flaming Slice on the Watermelon Axe after March (burn chance 5% to 30%) and with Volcanic Grapes on Throwing Grapes (5% to 10%). Those mutations are for the swarm as much as for the boss. Hellcap still pays Fire Curse tax if you are farming Dew here.
March also fixed sudden FPS drops when Dragonfruit spawned certain attacks. If your machine still hiccups, drop the Quality Preset in settings before you blame the pattern.
Egglosseum — Chicken Caesar
The November 13, 2025 Egglosseum update dropped you into a chicken ring. Chicktizens watch, then join. Eggies and Roosters (Legion of Peck) plus Triplets fill the circle. Nutcase was built for this geometry: Nut N Run and Bramble Roots want dash charges, and the ring has nowhere to hide. Chicken Caesar is the rooster boss. Peck combos and slams come first; later crown and wing-beat pressure shove you toward the rails.
Debuff Mutation arrived in that same patch. Shock, Marked, and the rest can grow into dedicated passives such as the official Pancake Slam example. Egglosseum is where those mutations stop being theory. Beast Marked 1.4x is honest damage on Chicken Caesar because bosses are not immune. Freeze still only locks the chickens, not the Caesar.
Hellscape — Fire King
Hellscape is the final arena after Egglosseum. Fire pools, eruptions, and the Fire King occupy three escalating phases. The secret character unlocks on a Fire King clear. Water and Earth kits remain the community default for adds; Marked and Burn still chip the King when Freeze does nothing. Relic Hellcap wants Fire Curses in exchange for spawn-rate HP pain after March. Read the dedicated Fire King page before you spend a high-curse run here.
Status, builds, and when to leave
Crowd-control the fodder. Burst the elites. Respect boss immunities. That sentence is the whole combat loop. Stack matching skill triggers so your dash or weapon attack also applies the debuff you actually need. Best builds and the character hub explain who wants which element. When a wave is unreadable, you do not need a new character — you need outlines, a Quality Preset, and a dash charge you did not dump on a pot.
Replay Carrot Farm to farm Starpath kill quests. Replay Egglosseum when you want elite density. Replay Hellscape only when Forest Strength and unlock progress say you can afford a Fire King attempt. The produce aisle does not get friendlier. You get faster at naming what is about to explode.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions about Funguys Swarm.
Who are the five arena bosses in Funguys Swarm?
Carrot Farm ends with Appletini, Frozen Pond with Catfish, Lava Jungle with Dragonfruit, Egglosseum with Chicken Caesar, and Hellscape with the Fire King. Completing each boss unlocks the next arena from the Forest Sanctuary.
Do bosses take the same debuffs as regular enemies?
No. Freeze immobilizes fodder for five seconds but bosses are immune. Marked still applies: it multiplies damage by 1.4x and bosses are not immune. Burn, Shock, Poison, Flat, and Starlight can still matter on bosses even when crowd-control immunities block Freeze.
What is the difference between a regular enemy and an elite?
Elites are tougher copies of fruit and vegetable units with extra health, denser attacks, and often a tell that punishes standing still. Chests after the March 2026 Optimization Update drop cards at Rare minimum, which helps you catch up when an elite pack spikes the wave. The Bounty Treeling grants a level-up after an elite kill.
Can a second player join the arena?
No. Funguys Swarm is single-player. One Funguy, one cursor or stick, one dash bar. Twitch voting in 1.0 can let a stream audience lean on card choice, but that does not add a second survivor in the arena.
Where should I learn attack patterns first?
Start on Carrot Farm with Shroomba or Ersa, then use the arena walkthrough for routing and the Fire King guide before Hellscape. Debuff windows and weapon mutations are covered on the dedicated debuffs and weapons pages.
