Starpath Progression

The board in the Forest Sanctuary

Starpath is Funguys Swarm’s quest track. You open it from the Forest Sanctuary between single-player arena runs. Each node asks for a concrete action: clear an arena, apply a debuff, spend dashes, open chests, or defeat a named boss. Rewards include playable Funguys, pets, Treelings, relics, and cosmetics. If the unlock guide feels like a shopping list, Starpath is the receipt that proves you earned the item.

Funguys Swarm 1.0 launched on August 25, 2026 from Stairway Games on Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Microsoft Store. Launch price was $9.99 with a 20% discount through September 8, 2026. Steam reviews sat at 974-plus and Very Positive. None of that progress is shared across storefronts. Steam Deck Verified play is excellent, but a Deck save does not appear on PS5.

Starters remain Shroomba and Ersa. Later roster entries — Nutcase, Groovba, Joomba, Fuzzbug, X-olotl, NutsNBoltz, Chimpy, Dr. Botanika, Mr. Midnight, Steve, and the secret character after a Fire King clear — often sit behind Starpath gates or arena clears. Check the board before you assume a character is missing from the character hub.

December 2025: 56 to 103

The December 2025 Starpath Update was Stairway’s answer to “the game is fun but too short.” Previously the board held 56 achievements. The patch added 47 new ones for a total of 103. Goals got clearer, milestones got denser, and rewards scaled with how far you had already climbed.

Because the rewrite was structural, all resources were refunded on existing saves. That refund was not a bonus crate. It was a reset so the new nodes could be claimed without orphaned currency. If you returned after December, spend that refund on Sanctuary ponds and Shroom Shop slots rather than hoarding it for a hypothetical sixth arena.

The same update redesigned Shroomba and Ersa toward a fiercer look, put Nutcase on the Steam capsule, and shipped six dash skills, extra Treelings (Bounty, Clutteroni, Smarty, Protectron, Marathony), and the relic trio of Commoncap, Dashspores, and Hellcap. Those systems feed Starpath: dash quests want Nutcase or Dashspores, elite quests want Bounty’s March rework, Mecha quests want Smarty and NutsNBoltz.

Version 1.0: 63 more quests, 112 Steam achievements

Version 1.0 did not replace Starpath. It piled 63 additional Starpath quests onto the December board and published 112 Steam achievements. Forest Strength, Hellscape, Dr. Botanika, Mr. Midnight, Steve, nine new skills, and Fire Curses all generated new checkboxes. Soundtrack DLC is a separate $1.99 purchase and does not complete Starpath nodes.

Do not treat the Steam overlay list as a copy of the Sanctuary board. Steam achievements track platform trophies. Starpath tracks in-world unlocks. Some overlap (clear Carrot Farm, beat the Fire King). Some do not. If a Steam tile says you already did a thing and Starpath still shows a locked node, the node probably wants a specific element, weapon, or arena modifier the Steam tile ignored.

How to farm without wasting runs

Read the node before you enter an arena. A “kill with Burn” quest wants Flaming Slice on the Watermelon Axe or Volcanic Grapes on Throwing Grapes after the March 2026 mutation buffs, not a random Fire Curse you took for Dew. A “dash X times” quest wants Dashspores and controls that actually spend charges, not a Joomba statue build.

Carrot Farm (Appletini) is the fastest loop for generic kill and pickup quests. Frozen Pond (Catfish) is better for Freeze and Water nodes. Lava Jungle (Dragonfruit) is the Burn and Mecha farm. Egglosseum (Chicken Caesar) is elite density and dash geometry. Hellscape is for Fire King and secret-character nodes only after Forest Strength is comfortable.

March quality-of-life matters here. Banish no longer ends the level-up when you dump one card; you can banish several, then pick. That keeps a Starpath-required skill in the deck instead of locking a dead Common. Chests drop Rare minimum, which shortens the time to a mutation that matches a quest. Breakable Dew, Shroom, and XP pots take three hits; do not skip them if a node counts pickups.

Relics, curses, and the board

Commoncap scales damage per Common card (March: every Common, including Weapon, Skill, and Passive). If a Starpath node wants a long Carrot Farm clear, Commoncap is a quiet multiplier. Hellcap still pays 10% damage per Fire Curse but after March it halves HP spawn chance instead of putting a timer on hearts. Do not equip Hellcap on a “don’t die” Starpath node. Diamondcap now also affects Shrines, which matters when a quest wants shrine interactions.

Best builds and skills tell you which trigger to stack so a quest completes in one run instead of five. Pets and Treelings such as Magnetika speed pickup quests; Protectron’s March armor-per-level kit helps “survive X minutes” nodes.

What Starpath is not

Starpath is not key rebinding. After March, Stairway listed key rebinding and more arenas as next work. Those roadmap items are not Starpath rewards. Starpath is also not a second survivor in the ring. Each run is still one Funguy.

When the board looks infinite, pick one column: a character unlock, a relic, or a Hellscape node. Finish it. Then open How to Play only if you still do not understand XP Beans. The swarm is the same. The checklist is what changed in December 2025 and again at 1.0.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about Funguys Swarm.

What is Starpath in Funguys Swarm?

Starpath is the Sanctuary quest board. Completing listed challenges unlocks characters, pets, Treelings, relics, and cosmetics. It is the primary long-term roadmap besides Forest Strength and Shroom Shop spending.

What changed in the December 2025 Starpath update?

Starpath grew from 56 achievements to 103 with 47 new entries. Stairway Games refunded resources on existing saves so players could re-engage the new board from a clean slate. Shroomba and Ersa also received fiercer visual redesigns in that patch.

How many Starpath quests and Steam achievements exist after 1.0?

Version 1.0 on August 25, 2026 added 63 more Starpath quests on top of the December board and shipped 112 Steam achievements. Treat Steam trophies and Starpath nodes as related but not identical lists.

Do Starpath quests carry across Steam, Epic, and consoles?

No. There is no cross-platform save. A Steam Deck Starpath board does not resume on PlayStation 5 or Xbox. Pick one storefront if you care about quest completion.

What should I complete first on Starpath?

Prioritize nodes that unlock extra Funguys and high-value Treelings, then relic-related quests. Replay Carrot Farm and Frozen Pond for fast named-kill and pickup quests before you farm Hellscape.
