December 2025 Update — Starpath

December 2025 Update Overview

The Starpath Update is the third major update for Funguys Swarm, going live on December 17 at 6:00 PM PST. This update delivers a complete progression overhaul, character redesigns, six new dash skills, two new skills, five new Treelings, and three new relics.

Steam Capsule Redesign

The Steam store capsule was redesigned to feature Nutcase, the new dash-power mouse character from the Egglosseum update. The new capsule art emphasizes the chaotic, high-energy vibe that defines Nutcase’s playstyle.

Shroomba and Ersa Redesign

Shroomba and Ersa received visual redesigns to match the game’s evolved tone. The team felt the original designs were too plain and cute for the direction the game was heading. The new designs give both characters a fiercer, more dynamic appearance while maintaining their core character identities.

Starpath Progression Overhaul

The most significant change in this update is the complete overhaul of the achievement progression system. Previously, Starpath contained 56 achievements. The update adds 47 new achievements, bringing the total to 103.

The new progression system provides clearer goals, more meaningful milestones, and rewards that scale appropriately with how far players have progressed. The system is designed to address a core roguelite complaint — the feeling of being underpowered in early runs — by giving every completed arena permanent impact on future runs.

All existing save files had resources refunded when this update went live, allowing players to re-engage with the new system from a clean state.

Six New Dash Skills

Six new dash skills were introduced, fundamentally expanding the mobility combat options available to all characters.

Burrow Down

Burrow Down replaces your standard dash with a digging motion. When you dash, you burrow underground and move forward until you emerge, dealing damage and knockback to enemies in your path. This skill provides both mobility and offensive utility through a single action.

Midnight Ghosts

Midnight Ghosts replaces your dash with a ghost mode ability. When you dash, you spawn a shadow-self and become an invulnerable ghost for a duration. This skill is primarily defensive, providing brief immunity windows that can be used to pass through dangerous enemy formations.

Savage Fists

Savage Fists spawns two punching fists on cooldown that punch forward, dealing damage and knocking back enemies. The fists provide passive area damage and control without requiring active input beyond initial activation.

Three additional dash skills were added alongside these three, completing the six-skill dash expansion.

Two New Skills

Two non-dash skills were added to expand build variety beyond the dash-focused additions. These skills provide alternative trigger-based damage and control options for builds that do not prioritize dash mechanics.

Five New Treelings

Five new Treelings joined the existing roster, adding fresh companion options for different build types.

Bounty

Bounty causes skill cards to level up after you kill an Elite enemy. This Treeling accelerates skill power growth in proportion to elite kill frequency, rewarding aggressive play against the game’s toughest regular enemies.

Clutteroni

Clutteroni gives breakable objects a chance to explode when destroyed, dealing area damage. This adds collateral damage potential to environmental destruction, making breakables more than just resource pickups.

Smarty

Smarty causes the Mecha to charge faster during runs. For players who rely on Potato Bot transformations, this Treeling reduces the time between available mecha uses.

Protectron

Protectron grants Stone Heart at the start of the run. Stone Heart blocks one instance of damage before being destroyed. This Treeling provides an immediate defensive buffer at the start of every run.

Marathony

Marathony grants a stack of movement speed bonus every time you reach a certain distance traveled. This creates a momentum-based speed scaling that rewards continuous movement throughout runs.

Three New Relics

Three new relics were added to the Shroom Shop inventory.

Commoncap

Commoncap provides plus five percent damage for each Common weapon upgrade card in your deck. This relic rewards builds that accumulate many Common-tier weapon upgrades.

Dashspores

Dashspores grants plus two dash charges but increases dash cooldown by twenty-five percent. This relic is valuable for characters like Nutcase who benefit from additional dash resources even at the cost of individual dash recovery speed.

Hellcap

Hellcap provides plus ten percent damage for each Fire Curse active in the run, but HP Drops expire after six seconds. This relic creates a high-risk, high-reward synergy with Fire Curse builds.

What Is Next

The developers have outlined the following future content plans:

The Starpath Update is described as only the beginning of the progression overhaul, with additional improvements planned. More content and surprises are in development, including additional upgrades, balance tweaks, and hidden content additions.
