Overview

Fuzzbug is a Night-scaling summoner added in the January 2026 update, not an original starter. The day-one pair remains Shroomba and Ersa. Fuzzbug arrived with Groovba, Joomba, X-olotl, NutsNBoltz, and Chimpy, then rode into 1.0 on August 25, 2026 as one of the high late-game orbit characters.

You start with one pixie that damages enemies on its own. That single orbit is the whole early identity: you dodge, you collect, you wait for Night cards. Pixies are affected by amount modifiers, so projectile-count upgrades are not flavor text — they feed the swarm that will eventually clear Hellscape for you.

Fuzzbug is the opposite of beginner-friendly sturdy melee. If you want a first character, use Ersa or Shroomba. If you want a snowball that looks silly and then deletes elites, Fuzzbug is the January specialist.

Playstyle

The loop is survive until Night density exists. Early Carrot Farm is a positioning exam with one pixie. Do not stand still expecting the orbit to clear a boss. Kite, dash, and take amount modifiers even before the Night stack is thick.

Once Night cards accumulate, Fuzzbug stops being a fragile novelty. Orbits cover a wider radius, hit harder, and keep hitting while you vacuum XP. Your weapon still matters because weapons mix across heroes, but the pixies are the reason you picked this character. A pure melee Axe Fuzzbug is usually a worse Shroomba.

Late-game Fuzzbug is high ceiling. Dense Egglosseum packs feed XP into more Night cards into more pixies. The Fire King fight is less about landing a hero swing and more about keeping the orbit overlapping the boss while you dodge cones. That is a skilled single-player pattern, not a “press freeze and win” pattern.

Pixie Mechanic and Official Numbers

Start: one pixie that damages enemies. Amount modifiers affect pixies.

Original January 2026 rule: plus one projectile per two Night cards. That version is what older patch notes describe. Do not build as if that ratio is still current.

March 2026 Optimization Update (current numbers you should play around):

  • One pixie per Night card (replacing plus one projectile per two Night cards)
  • Pixie damage scaling increased from 15% to 35%
  • Orbit radius increased from 300 to 500
  • Orbit speed reduced from 180 to 140

The radius buff is why Fuzzbug feels like a zone controller after the patch. The slower orbit speed is a readability and coverage change, not a nerf in isolation — combined with 500 radius and 35% damage scaling, late Night stacks are the point of the character.

Night is the element. The seven-element pool still lets you splash Water freeze for survival or Beast for weapon damage, but every Night card is now a pixie. That is the build law.

Best Builds and Elements

Night-primary. Take Night cards even when a shiny Fire curse reward tempts you off-color. Amount modifiers (projectile count, extra hits, extra orbs) are second priority because they scale the pixies you already have.

Water freeze is the best defensive splash for the weak early game. Earth area is a backup if Freeze does not appear. Sky dash tools help you live until the orbit comes online. Nature and Fire are optional; they are not Fuzzbug’s story.

Keep skill count focused. A Night engine plus one pickup skill plus one dash skill is enough. Pickup skills such as Stardust are fine if Magnetika is equipped, but do not chase Ersa’s Frozen Pond trophy on a Fuzzbug run unless you like extra homework.

Compare notes with the Best Builds trigger guide and the Skills and Weapons element list. Fuzzbug is a summon/orbit plan, not a dash-only Nutcase plan and not an Armor bomb Chimpy plan.

Treeling Synergy

Magnetika is first. Faster XP means faster Night cards means more pixies. Fuzzbug’s entire identity is a snowball; starving the magnet delays the character.

Slo Moe covers the minutes when you have one pixie and a boss. Slowed projectiles are how a summoner lives before the orbit is a blender.

Dashy is mobility while pixies work. You should not need dash as a damage button the way X-olotl does after a Beast dash, but you need to not die.

Furiosy shines in the late clean snowball. If you can avoid hits while 500-radius pixies work, attack speed on the hero weapon is extra, not required.

Skip building around Macho as your win condition. Healing does not spawn pixies. Pets: Starcat accelerates XP. Rusdy is training wheels for Frozen Pond. Quacky is optional knockback if early swarms sit on you.

Arena Notes

Carrot Farm is the hardest relative moment because the kit is smallest. Farm Forest Strength and Sanctuary levels on other characters if Fuzzbug’s open feels miserable. Unlock pathing is on the Unlock Guide.

Frozen Pond is safer once Slo Moe and a Water splash exist. Do not confuse this with Ersa’s Stardust trophy homework.

Lava Jungle rewards 500-radius orbits that hit across hazard tiles you cannot stand on. Stay on safe ground; let pixies reach in.

Egglosseum is where Fuzzbug starts looking unfair. Density feeds the snowball. Keep moving so you do not eat ring-wide attacks while staring at orbits.

Hellscape is the late-game exam. High Night stacks plus amount modifiers is a legitimate Fire King plan if you can dodge. Read the Fire King guide. Fuzzbug will not match Ersa’s freeze safety, but the ceiling is higher if the orbit is fully funded.

Steam Deck Verified is fine; you are mostly steering a summoner. EA saves remain Steam-only with no cross-platform saves.

Tips

Do not call Fuzzbug a starter in your notes. Starters are Shroomba and Ersa. Fuzzbug is January 2026.

Play the March 2026 numbers: one pixie per Night card, 35% pixie damage scaling, 500 radius, 140 orbit speed. Ignore the old plus-one-projectile-per-two-Night-cards muscle memory.

Amount modifiers still matter. Night cards spawn pixies; amount modifiers juice those pixies.

If early arenas feel hopeless, finish Getting Started on Ersa, fund the Sanctuary, then come back. Rankings live on the Character Tier List. Roster context lives on the Players Hub and Characters Hub. Patch context lives on January 2026 and Version 1.0.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about Funguys Swarm.

When was Fuzzbug added to Funguys Swarm?

Fuzzbug joined in the January 2026 New Characters update with Groovba, Joomba, X-olotl, NutsNBoltz, and Chimpy. Fuzzbug is not an Early Access day-one starter. Day-one starters are Shroomba and Ersa.

How do Fuzzbug's pixies scale after the March 2026 Optimization Update?

Fuzzbug starts with one pixie that damages enemies. Pixies are affected by amount modifiers. Originally you gained plus one projectile per two Night cards. The March 2026 Optimization Update changed that to one pixie per Night card, raised pixie damage scaling from 15% to 35%, increased orbit radius from 300 to 500, and slowed orbit speed from 180 to 140.

Is Fuzzbug a good beginner character?

Usually no. Early pixie count is low, so the first minutes of Carrot Farm can feel empty compared with Ersa Freeze or Shroomba melee. Fuzzbug is a high late-game summoner once Night cards and amount modifiers come online.

Should Fuzzbug take Beast cards instead of Night?

Night is the scaling color. Amount modifiers that add projectiles still matter because they affect pixies, but the dedicated pixie-per-Night-card rule is why you stack Night. Beast weapon damage is a splash, not the trunk.

What Treelings work with Fuzzbug?

Magnetika speeds the Night cards that spawn extra pixies. Slo Moe covers the weak early game. Dashy is mobility insurance while orbits do the hitting. Furiosy is strong once you can stay clean in the late orbit snowball.
