Funguys Swarm X-olotl
A Beast clone striker — extra copies, cheaper dashes, and a two-second attack-speed burst after every dash.
Overview
X-olotl (also written X-Olotl) is a Beast clone striker from the January 2026 update. He is not a day-one starter. Shroomba and Ersa still own that slot. X-olotl arrived with Fuzzbug, Chimpy, Groovba, Joomba, and NutsNBoltz, then carried into Stairway Games’ 1.0 release on August 25, 2026 as the roster’s dash-and-copy fighter.
The fantasy is simple to say and demanding to play: stack Beast cards, spawn copies, dash often, swing faster. Copies deal 50% weapon damage, so your equipped weapon is the whole clone economy. Weapons can be mixed across heroes — a fast gun and a slow axe are different clone characters wearing the same salamander.
If you wanted a passive orbit, that is Fuzzbug. If you wanted freeze, that is Ersa. X-olotl is the striker who pays you for Beast density and dash discipline.
Playstyle
You are a melee-or-midrange fighter who uses dash as both survival and a damage cooldown. After each dash you get 50% attack speed for two seconds. That window is the reason to take weapon-attack skills: copies and the hero all swing faster together.
Between windows you are setting up the next dash. Dash cooldown is reduced by 5% per Beast card, so the same color that spawns copies also shortens the gap. The kit wants you to stay in motion without becoming Nutcase, whose entire identity is dash-power stacking from November 2025. X-olotl dashes to buff a weapon; Nutcase dashes because dashing is the weapon.
Early game is a Beast drought. Four cards per copy is a real threshold. Until the first copy exists you are a slightly dash-happy generic fighter. Play like a cautious Getting Started student, then flip into striker mode when the copies appear.
Clone and Dash Numbers
Official rules to keep straight:
- Every 4 Beast cards spawn a copy dealing 50% weapon damage
- Dash cooldown is reduced by 5% per Beast card
- After a dash, you gain 50% attack speed for 2 seconds
Those three lines are the whole character. Do not invent extra clone percents or a free starting copy unless a later patch page says so. This wiki page follows the January kit as listed with the 1.0 roster.
Because copies inherit weapon behavior, shop weapons and Sanctuary upgrades matter twice. A slow Watermelon Axe clone still hits at 50%, but you get fewer swings inside the two-second haste. A faster weapon makes the haste window look broken. Mixing weapons is allowed; pick the one that likes attack speed.
Beast is the color. The seven elements still exist, but every off-Beast card delays the next copy and the next 5% cooldown cut. Splash Water freeze if you cannot survive the setup. Do not splash Night pixies expecting Fuzzbug results.
Best Builds and Elements
Beast-primary. Weapon-attack skills (Eagle Claws, similar on-swing effects) ride the post-dash 50% attack speed. Dash-triggered skills (Bramble Roots, Nut N Run, Twin Flame) ride the fact that you already want to dash constantly. The Best Builds page treats dash stacking as a meta; X-olotl is one of the characters that page is describing.
Sky is a reasonable splash for extra mobility. Water is a defensive splash. Earth is optional area. Night, Nature, and Fire are distractions unless a relic forces your hand.
Keep copies fed. Four Beast cards is a breakpoint you can count. Eight cards is two copies. Plan level-ups around hitting those numbers instead of collecting a zoo of elements.
Treeling Synergy
Dashy is nearly mandatory. Refunded dash charges multiply both the 5% Beast cooldown cuts and the 2-second 50% attack-speed buff. Without Dashy you still function; with Dashy the striker loop becomes a drumbeat.
Magnetika buys Beast cards faster. Copies are gated on card count, not on vibes.
Slo Moe protects the commitment after a dash. You just spent a charge to start swinging; slowed projectiles keep that window from being a suicide.
Furiosy stacks with the post-dash haste if you can stay unhit. Macho is a beginner bandage, not a clone engine.
Pets: Starcat for XP. Rusdy if Frozen Pond is bullying you before copies exist. Quacky is low priority.

Arena Notes
Carrot Farm is Beast farming. Stay alive, hit the first four-card copy, then decide if the weapon you mixed in is actually clone-worthy.
Frozen Pond wants a Water splash or Rusdy until copies exist. Ice plus empty clone slots is how X-olotl runs end.
Lava Jungle rewards dash i-frames across hazards. Do not dash into lava because the attack-speed buff looked tempting.
Egglosseum is the fun room: density, dash lines, copies overlapping. Nutcase shares this arena’s energy, but your numbers are Beast copies, not dash-power stacks.
Hellscape needs copies online before the Fire King. If you arrive with two Beast cards and a dream, swap to Ersa. If you arrive with multiple 50% copies and Dashy, you have a real single-player boss plan: dash, dump the two-second haste, dash again when cooldown allows.
Steam Deck Verified helps because dash is a face button. EA saves stay on Steam only; no cross-platform saves.
Tips
Count Beast cards. Four per copy, 5% dash cooldown each, haste after every dash. That is the homework.
Do not play X-olotl as a starter. Use Unlock Guide if you still need him unlocked, then fund the Sanctuary so the weapon copies inherit real damage.
Weapon choice is the clone. Mixing across heroes is a feature; a bad mix is still a bad mix.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions about Funguys Swarm.
How do X-olotl's clones work?
Every four Beast cards spawn a copy that deals 50% of your weapon damage. Clones scale with the weapon you actually equipped, which is why mixing weapons across heroes still matters: the copy swings whatever you swung.
How does Beast affect X-olotl's dash?
Dash cooldown is reduced by 5% per Beast card. After you dash, X-olotl gains 50% attack speed for two seconds. More Beast cards means more clones and a dash that comes back faster so you can retrigger the attack-speed window.
Was X-olotl a day-one starter?
No. X-olotl (also written X-Olotl) joined in the January 2026 New Characters update. Original starters are Shroomba and Ersa. Nutcase arrived earlier in the November 2025 Egglosseum update.
Is X-olotl good for beginners?
Only if you already dash well. The kit wants Beast density and constant dash-to-swing windows. Beginners usually learn faster on Ersa Freeze or Shroomba melee before trying clone math.
What Treelings should X-olotl use?
Dashy is the signature pair because dash cooldown reduction stacks with the 5% per Beast card and retriggers the 50% attack-speed buff. Magnetika funds Beast cards. Slo Moe covers the seconds between dashes. Furiosy overlaps the post-dash speed window.
