Funguys Swarm Weapons Guide
Official-blog weapons, Weapon Cards, mutations, Potato Bot Mecha, and 1.0 mix-and-match on any hero.
Mix-and-match, then mutate
Funguys Swarm weapons used to feel glued to a mascot. Shroomba’s favorite was the Watermelon Axe; grapes belonged to whoever threw them. Version 1.0 on August 25, 2026 lets any hero mix-and-match weapons. Starters Shroomba and Ersa still teach those two kits, but Nutcase, Groovba, Joomba, Fuzzbug, X-olotl, NutsNBoltz, Chimpy, Dr. Botanika, Mr. Midnight, Steve, and the secret Fire King unlock can all carry the same steel. This is a single-player loadout choice, not a shared stash.
The October 2025 Lava Jungle blog is still the ruleset: every 3 levels you pick a Weapon Card augment with Common, Rare, or Epic rarity. Every 12 levels you pick a Weapon Mutation. Higher rarity means stronger stats. Mutations are the personality swap — Flaming Slice, Volcanic Grapes, and the rest of the roughly ten options per weapon. Skills sit beside weapons; they do not replace the card cadence.
Chests after March drop Rare minimum, so box luck is less likely to hand you a dead Common augment. Regular level-ups still roll Commons, which is why Commoncap became a deck-wide damage relic. Banish lets you dump several cards before you commit, which is how you protect a mutation slot from a junk Epic.
Watermelon Axe
Official July 2025 language: the watermelon axe is Shroomba’s favorite. It is a farm-to-battle melee swing with special skills. Two of the three specials Stairway showed were Moon Slash and Bubble Jump. Moon Slash is the wide arc. Bubble Jump is the pop-pop mobility toy. You still auto-attack toward mouse or right stick as described in controls. You do not get a separate heavy-attack button.
March 2026 buffed the Flaming Slice mutation: burn chance 5% to 30%. That is the reason Axe-plus-Burn debuff farms in Lava Jungle suddenly feel honest. Pair it with Fire-element skills, Hellcap only if you can afford fewer hearts, and Dragonfruit routes from the arena walkthrough. Appletini still wants you to not stand in the bottle. The axe does not grant extra i-frames; dash still does.
Sanctuary weapon upgrades spend Dew on base damage and speed that persist across runs. Upgrade the axe if you actually swing it. Mix-and-match does not refund Dew you spent on grapes.
Throwing Grapes
The first blogs sold grapes as the goofy ranged counterpart: if life gives you chilies, throw grapes at them. Rapid projectiles apply debuffs quickly, which is why Ersa Freeze kits and Shock stacks like them. Auto-fire should stay on unless you are doing a deliberate click-timing experiment.
March 2026 buffed Volcanic Grapes: burn chance 5% to 10%. That is half as loud as Flaming Slice but it is still a Burn plan for players who refuse to stand in axe range. Frozen Pond Catfish will not Freeze-lock; Burn still ticks. Egglosseum roosters die faster if grapes apply Marked from a Beast card at the same time.
Grapes want attack-speed Weapon Cards more than single-hit Epic damage. If best builds tell you to stack weapon-attack triggers, grapes are the cleaner clock.
Hornet Spike and Garlic Hammer
October 2025 added Hornet Spike for sharpshooters: charge a spike that travels farther, all spikes pierce. Line up Peashooters and Chargeberries; do not charge while a Pomegranade is already in fuse range. Early Access also listed Garlic Hammer as a third weapon beside grapes and the axe. 1.0’s wider shop can show more types; if a card is not in the official blogs, read the in-game description instead of inventing stats.
Hammer-style slow swings want dash i-frames because you cannot out-walk every elite. Spike wants a clean lane. Neither replaces Mecha.
Potato Bot Mecha
Lava Jungle introduced Potato Bot: jump in the mech, shoot exploding potatoes, fill a blue ultimate bar, smash. Three charge bars fill over time and faster as you kill. Transform when at least one bar is ready; saving multiple bars extends duration.
NutsNBoltz is the Mecha specialist. Nuts charge Mecha by 5% and grant 50% movement speed for five seconds, scaling with Earth cards. Smarty Treeling, from December 2025, charges Mecha faster during a run. That is a Treeling, not a weapon mutation, but it belongs in any Mecha paragraph.
Mecha is a panic and a boss tool. Dragonfruit tornadoes, Chicken Caesar wing-beats, and Fire King pillars are the moments you spend bars. Do not dump Mecha on Carrot Farm fodder unless a Starpath node demands it.
Loadout advice that survives 1.0
Pick a weapon that matches how you already move. Dash addicts can still axe. Statue Joomba wants grapes or spike so the aim stick does the work. Ube characters (Dr. Botanika, Mr. Midnight, Steve) fire the carried weapon automatically; weapon choice still matters because Ube holds whatever you equipped.
Upgrade paths live in Sanctuary. Mutations live in the run. Relics like Commoncap care about how many Common weapon cards you kept. Fire King clears still want a plan from the Fire King guide, not a random Legendary hammer you never swung in Egglosseum.
Steam Deck Verified play uses the same auto-attack rules. Quality Presets from March keep Lava Jungle readable when potato explosions fill the screen. Key rebinding is on the post-March roadmap, so you will not remap “Call Mecha” until that patch ships. Until then, learn the default, mix the weapon, mutate on the 12s, and let the produce army walk into the slice.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions about Funguys Swarm.
Can every character use every weapon in 1.0?
Yes. Version 1.0 lets you mix-and-match weapons on any hero. Shroomba's favorite remains the Watermelon Axe, but Ersa can swing it and Shroomba can throw grapes. Default favorites are flavor, not locks.
How do Weapon Cards and mutations work?
The October 2025 Lava Jungle update reworked weapons. Every 3 levels you pick a Weapon Card augment (Common, Rare, or Epic). Every 12 levels you pick a Weapon Mutation. Official notes mention about 10 mutations per weapon.
What did March 2026 change on Watermelon Axe and Throwing Grapes?
Flaming Slice on Watermelon Axe raised burn chance from 5% to 30%. Volcanic Grapes on Throwing Grapes raised burn chance from 5% to 10%. Those are mutation buffs, not base-weapon rewrites.
How does Mecha charge work with NutsNBoltz?
Potato Bot Mecha arrived with Lava Jungle. NutsNBoltz Nuts charge Mecha by 5% and grant a movement-speed burst. Smarty Treeling charges Mecha faster. Stack bars before you transform for longer Potato Bot time.
Which weapon should beginners start with?
Shroomba players should learn Watermelon Axe swing timing. Ersa players can keep a Freeze-friendly ranged option such as Throwing Grapes. Leave auto-fire on, aim at elites, and read the controls page before you hunt mutations.
