Seven elements, seven statuses

Every damaging personality in Funguys Swarm eventually becomes a status. Water Freeze, Sky Shock, Nature Poison, Earth Flat, Beast Marked, Night Starlight, and Fire Burn are the seven you build around. This is a single-player deck game: one Funguy, one set of controls, one chance to stack the right color before Appletini or the Fire King arrives.

Version 1.0 launched August 25, 2026. Mix-and-match weapons means Shroomba can throw grapes that Shock and Ersa can swing an axe that Burns. Element still comes from cards and mutations, not from a locked class identity. Starters are Shroomba and Ersa. Groovba later leans Poison; Nutcase leans dash into whatever Debuff Mutation the ring offers.

Freeze (Water) — five seconds, bosses immune

Freeze immobilizes for five seconds. That is an eternity against Chargeberries and Lychee Snakes and a blank stare against bosses. Frozen Pond looks like Freeze heaven until Catfish shrugs. Keep Freeze for adds. Do not plan a Fire King phase around a Water lock that will not apply.

Ersa’s identity is teaching this rule. Steve’s 1.0 Water automation makes Freeze cards more consistent, not more legal on the King.

Shock (Sky)

Shock is Sky’s disruption color. Official November notes used Shock as the tutorial for Debuff Mutation: if you inflict Shock, a passive such as Shock Critical Discharge can appear once conditions are met. Pair Shock with Joomba standing windows or Dr. Botanika’s Ube pulses. Frozen Pond and Egglosseum both get readable when shocked extras stop animating like a choir.

Shock does not replace dash i-frames. It buys you a beat to spend a charge on purpose.

Poison (Nature)

Poison is the patience color. Groovba scales debuff damage with Nature cards and can drop half-hearts when debuffs kill. Long-lived elites are Poison’s favorite food. Fast bosses can walk out of the DoT before it matters. Nature also hosts luck and summon kits; do not assume every Nature card is Poison.

Flat (Earth)

Flat is Earth’s knockdown flavor. The November blog’s Pancake Slam example is the joke version of asserting dominance with a flatten. Chimpy’s Earth retaliation and NutsNBoltz’s Earth Nut scaling are adjacent, not identical. Use Flat to interrupt Peashooter volleys and rooster wind-ups. Bosses may resist the crowd-control half even when they still take Earth damage; do not confuse a status name with a skill trigger.

Marked (Beast) — 1.4x, bosses not immune

Marked is the honest boss status. 1.4x damage, bosses not immune. Fuzzbug pixies, X-olotl clones, and Beast cards all want this number on Chicken Caesar and the Fire King. If you can only keep one status into a boss phase, keep Marked. Freeze the chickens. Mark the Caesar.

March Fuzzbug buffs (one pixie per Night card, stronger scaling, wider orbit) make Beast-plus-Night decks spray more hits, which applies Marked more often. That is a character story as much as a status story.

Starlight (Night)

Starlight is Night’s mark of spell density. Mr. Midnight stacks Night cards; Fuzzbug now wants Night count for pixies. Starlight is how projectile decks stay relevant when Freeze is illegal. Hellscape darkness events make Night kits feel thematic; they do not automatically win the Fire King. Pair Starlight with relics that keep you shooting, not with Hellcap unless you already know the pillar pattern.

Burn (Fire)

Burn is Fire’s tick. March made it real on two official mutations: Flaming Slice 5% to 30% on Watermelon Axe, Volcanic Grapes 5% to 10% on Throwing Grapes. Lava Jungle Dragonfruit is the classroom. Hellcap still pays 10% damage per Fire Curse while starving hearts after March. Burn plus Hellcap is a Dew farm, not a first clear.

Debuff Mutation (November 13, 2025)

The Egglosseum update added Debuff Mutation as a passive that enhances a specific status once you unlock it. It is not a seventh element. It is a multiplier on one of the seven. Farm the matching infliction, then accept the mutation when the card appears. Banish after March 2026 lets you throw away off-color passives until the mutation you actually wanted shows.

Practical stacking

Do not chase all seven in one run. Two statuses with matching triggers beat a rainbow. Carrot Farm: Freeze plus anything. Frozen Pond: Freeze adds, Marked Catfish. Lava Jungle: Burn plus dash. Egglosseum: Marked plus Shock or Flat. Hellscape: Marked plus Earth/Water control on adds, then the Fire King guide.

Starpath nodes often name a status. Read the node. Equip the weapon mutation that actually rolls that status. Soundtrack DLC will not apply Marked for you.
